Last month, the English Teachers Association of Queensland invited me to deliver the keynote address at their annual conference in Brisbane. My talk was entitled Literature and Literacy in Online Affinity Spaces: Lessons from The Hunger Games, and it was based on my ongoing ethnographic research. I have shared the slides online, and there is also a video that ETAQ members can access.
The ETAQ conference program featured thought-provoking, compelling presentations on topics such as games and literacy, the Australian Curriculum, and Indigenous literature. Coming from New South Wales, it was interesting to learn more about Queensland’s approach to assessment and their work to integrate the national curriculum. There was a great back channel discussion on Twitter via #etaq12 too.
